Recurring Cleaning

A graphic designer ethnological research of a cleaning gig work.

On February 2018, with the intention of investigating social hierarchies and domestic work I worked as a cleaner in five different houses across London using a service app. Recurring cleaning is an illustrated book and research record of this process.

Recuring Cleaning is my solo Master's thesis and it was selected to be exhibited at the London Design Festival 2018 - Creative Unions exhibition and, it is part of the Central Saint Martins

Museum & Study Collection.

In the course of my investigative process, I documented conversations with clients, household details and clients’ personal belongings. By embracing the flaws of my ethnographic research, the book Recurring Cleaning questions conventional research methodology, and highlights the work of domestic workers, who are often under appreciated and invisible.

The book shows a collection of non-objective drawings that are nonetheless descriptive of the work of domestic work. I used dissolved black ink and cleaning bleach to produce my final illustrations.

Recuring Cleaning is my solo Master's thesis and it was selected to be exhibited at the London Design Festival 2018 - Creative Unions exhibition.
